Parents- thank you for your continued patience during dismissal. It always takes about a week to get it going quickly, but this year has been worse than normal due to a failure in our electronic system with Kinder. and 1st Monday, rain, and the addition of PreK dismissal on the side today! We are continuing to work on ways to get our kindergartners out faster- there's a learning curve for them. If you have a 3rd-5th grader, and you can tell you won't make it to the side/east loading area by 3:15, you can head to the front. Our teachers are off duty at 3:15, so we have to send all students to the front then. Usually that's not an issue because our front line has dwindled down at that point, but it has been an issue this week. If we tried to use the front for the whole school, it would take until 4:00 every day! Here are a few ways you can help the am and pm car line (especially for kindergarteners): parents should stay in vehicles during arrival and drop off- this is a great time to teach your child to buckle/unbuckle themselves, masks should be put on prior to stopping to unload in the mornings, and all cars need to pull all the way up to load/unload. It will get faster- we promise!

Patient parents- we are sorry our car rider line took so long today! We had an issue with our electronic system in our kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms, so those students weren't seeing their names. We have it all fixed, and tomorrow will be better! A few reminders- 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are picked up on the side. K-2 are picked up in the front; if you have older and younger students, they are picked up in the front. We can't dismiss students to parents who walk up to the front doors; due to safety concerns, all parents should be waiting for walkers down by the corner on McRay. Kids should either walk home or be picked up in a car. If you did not review the parent newsletter shared on Facebook, our school website, via text, or get the phone call from school, all the information you need is there. Thanks again for your patience!

¡Qué gran semana ha sido en Westwood! ¡Nos ha encantado ver a tantos de nuestros estudiantes en la jornada de puertas abiertas esta semana donde comenzaron la aventura de este año llenando sus pasaportes! Algunas piezas importantes de información: hemos descubierto una manera de abrir las puertas a las 7:20 este año (tanto al costado como al frente). Esperamos que esto ayude a aquellos de ustedes que tienen que ponerse a trabajar. Desafortunadamente, no podremos tener visitantes en el edificio el lunes ya que vendrá toda la escuela, así que por favor use las líneas para dejar a los pasajeros en automóvil. What a great week it's been at Westwood! We have loved seeing so many of our students at open house this week were they started this year's adventure by filling up their passports! A few important pieces of information- we have figured out a way to open the doors at 7:20 this year (both side and front). We hope this will help those of you who have to get to work. Unfortunately, we won't be able to have visitors in the building Monday since the whole school will be coming, so please use the car rider drop off lines. We will still allow left turns from McRay into the parking lot for now while we eagerly wait on the city to make some improvements (coming soon!). We can't wait till Monday!

Guess what? School is only a little less than 4 weeks away! If you need to enroll your student, visit Westwood starting next Monday, July 26th, between 8:30 and 3:30. Our kindergarten is almost full, so if you have a child who will turn 5 before August 1st, you need to come next week!
