Andi Acuff, who has been assistant principal for 12 years at Monitor Elementary, has been named principal of the school. She replaces Maribel Childress who was promoted to assistant superintendent for curriculum, grades pre-k-5.

"I am so excited to have the opportunity to continue to serve the students, staff and parents at Monitor Elementary School," Acuff said. "It will be a privilege to build on the strong cultural foundation of academic excellence that has been established at this exceptional school. I am grateful to Dr. (Superintendent Jim) Rollins and the school board for this opportunity."

Rollins said, "After 12 years as assistant principal at Monitor Elementary, Mrs. Acuff knows the school, its programs of services, the students, parents, teachers and the support staff at the school. She is in a great position to continue to lead the tradition of excellence at Monitor Elementary School."

Acuff has been assistant principal as long as Monitor Elementary has been open. She joined Childress at the school after serving at Parson Hills Elementary when Childress was the principal there. After earning her bachelor's degree, then master's in arts and teaching from the University of Arkansas, she was hired as a fourth grade teacher at Parson Hills. She taught fourth grade for six years before becoming an instructional facilitator at Parson Hills. She performed that duty for two years, then moved to Monitor.

She received her administrative certification from Harding and has a TESL certificate from Arkansas Tech.
